The Tutor Group™ is a private tutoring and education consulting business. It provides services to schools and programs encompassing advice and consultation, often guiding newer, growing, or rebranding of schools or organizations. They also offer private one-on-one tutoring in traditional subjects for most grade levels and ages. They cover a wide variety of subjects from Kindergarten to some post-secondary and adult education courses.
Janyce Lastman founded The Tutor Group™ in 1979 after winding down a busy personal tutoring practice. As director, she hires and supervises the TTG tutors. Many are certified Ontario teachers but not all as possession of an Ontario Teaching Certificate is no indication of skill within a one-to-one setting. As an education consultant, Janyce is familiar with a wide range of private schools and programs, and many local public/separate school options, and can assist parents and students with the process. She helps match children and teens to schools and programs, whether locally or internationally through each stage of their education, from grade school to graduation. As a case manager, Janyce also has extensive experience in and expertise with understanding how best to assist and place hard-to-serve children, youth and young adults.
Prior to starting tutoring with a new student, we provide our tutors with a detailed historical and functional summary of the student's educational history, personality, interests, special needs etc. based on the tutoring intake, as well as copies of recent report cards, assessments, work samples and standardized testing results supplied by families. Most students feel more at ease with in-home tutoring using the familiar comfort of their home and tutors can model study and organizational skills within the home study space. In addition, families feel more connected to the tutorial process, and feedback from your private tutor is readily available. The tutors work closely with parents while respecting older students' need for independence with consent they can also liaise with school staff or other professionals.
