Turning Point Center for Youth and Family Development offers both day and residential treatment for teens, ages 12-18 who are struggling with negative and oppositional behaviors that include family conflict, defiance towards family members and authority figures, aggression and anger issues, poor school performance or disruptive in school; or for those with substance abuse, low self esteem and depression.
Originally founded in 1967 as an emergency shelter for adolescents in the juvenile justice system, Turning Point Center provides a multiple services for families and is CARF accredited and licensed by the State of Colorado Department of Human Services, the State of Colorado Department of Education and the State of Colorado Division of Behavioral Health. Executive Director is Stephanie Brown, LCSW who first joined Turning Point as a counselor almost 20 years ago. The Clinical Director of Turning Point is Kim Bappe, LCSW, LAC. Kim has a Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work from University of Denver. She has worked in the human service field for more than 22 years in a variety of settings including psychiatric, residential, day treatment and independent living.
Upon enrollment, an individual treatment plan is created to include both individual and family counseling. Turning Point also engages the teens in evidence based practices including DBT, CBT, EMDR and gender specific group counseling. Special Education teachers work with the students on their individualized educational level and students can gain their GED or earn transferable credits back to their home school or college. Other core components of Turning Point Center's program include community service projects, life skills classes and transition education.
