Started in 1989, Turn-About Ranch is a unique, short term (100 day) residential treatment center for teens, ages 13-17 years old that struggle with emotional and behavioral issues, deviancy, low self esteem, addiction and substance abuse, ADD/ADHD and low academic performance. This working cattle and horse ranch is located next to the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument and close to Capitol Reef National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park.
Luke Hatch, LCSW is the Executive Director at Turn-About Ranch and was the Program Director prior to his promotion. Myron Carter is the Barn Program Director (and a true cowboy) has been with Turn-About since its founding, Michelle Lindsay, MS, LPC, is the Clinical Director, Marty Ormond is the Lodge Program Director and Karen Munson is the Academic Director. Turn-About Ranch is licensed by the State of Utah, Office of Licensing, and the Department of Human Services and accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools and approved by SEVIS and a member of NATSAP.
This Christian based program stresses traditional values, teamwork, respect and accountability through an active and highly structured curriculum. Students participate in daily chores of feeding the animals, academics, weekly ranch projects that may include hauling hay, fencing, and harvesting crops, in addition to community service and other projects. Horsemanship sessions prepare the students for the "highlight of ranch life" of riding horses and joining in on cattle drives through the hills, valleys and sandstone canyons that surround the ranch.
