True North Wilderness Program is thrilled to announce that Krissy Pozatek, M.S.W., L.I.C.S.W., has recently joined our clinical team.
Krissy has had over 10 years of experience in Wilderness Therapy and the Residential Treatment field. She graduated from Middlebury College with a joint undergraduate degree in environmental studies and geography. She started in the therapeutic field as a wilderness instructor at Aspen Achievement Academy, working with both adjudicated and at-risk youth. After spending one year in the wilderness setting, she worked at the residential treatment center, Montana Academy.
Recognizing that wilderness therapy combined Krissy's interests of therapy and wilderness/experiential education, Krissy went on to complete her graduate training in clinical social work, at both Smith College School for Social Work and at N.M. Highlands University. In her clinical internships she worked with children and adolescents at the Albuquerque Public Schools, and with individuals and families in Community Mental Health in Bernallilo, New Mexico.
Krissy then returned to Aspen Achievement Academy as a field therapist and worked with both adolescent boys and girls and their families, and then transferred to Second Nature. Krissy spent over 4 years at Second Nature working with adolescent girls and their parents. Krissy's clinical experience includes the treatment of adoption issues, sexual trauma, abuse histories, self-harming behavior, chemical dependency, personality disorders, eating disorders and family system problems.
Krissy established the parent counseling program called Parallel Process which provided therapeutic support, and clinical counseling for parents who have had children placed in therapeutic programs.
Krissy grew up outside of Boston, Massachusetts, and in New Hampshire and Vermont. She lived in the West for 10 years working in adolescent programs, and now lives in Vermont with her husband and two daughters. True North is honored to have her join our team.
