Adoption is one of the most emotional, joyful experiences some parents will ever experience. However, if an adopted child is struggling with attachment issues, it can feel very difficult and sometimes overwhelming.
Trails Carolina Wilderness Therapy provides a powerful opportunity for young people with behavioral and emotional challenges related to adoption and attachment to build emotional connections with their adoptive parents and families.
Over the years, I have worked with many young people with attachment issues. Often, it's not an easy process to work through these behaviors. It's important for parents to be persistent in their efforts to form connections with their adopted child.
In my years of working with adoptive parents and their children at Trails Carolina, I have used several specific assignments which help to build a healthy dialogue between students and parents.
