Trails Carolina is proud to welcome back Shalene after a well-deserved sabbatical. After a July 4th wedding, Shalene has spent the last two months enjoying nature, playing tennis, getting sand between her toes and most importantly relaxing!

Shalene Pierce, MSW, LCSW, Primary Therapist, specializes in Trauma, Adoption, Substance Abuse, Anger Management, Oppositional Defiance, Identity Issues, Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, and Emotional Dysregulation.
Her education includes a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington, and her Bachelors Degree in Psychology and Women's Studies from The University of Texas, Austin. She is EMDR trained and specializes in Wilderness Therapy and working with Survivors of Trauma.
Shalene grew up in Texas and has lent her experience and expertise over the last fifteen years to starting up multiple wilderness therapeutic programs for struggling youth. Shalene has also worked and trained at a rape crisis center and functioned as a clinical director in wilderness. She believes in the power and opportunity for change that wilderness provides to both the girls in her group and their families. When not working, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family, friends, and dogs-Biscuit and Porter.

Trails Carolina is a wilderness therapy program based just outside of Asheville, North Carolina that offers a multi-dimensional wilderness therapy model to troubled adolescents, ages 10-17.
