This email is to officially announce the kickoff of a new group aimed at treating addiction among students at Timber Ridge Preparatory School for Girls. Many of our students come to Timber Ridge Prep with a variety of addictions issues. Some have merely experimented, while others are deeply addicted and were using on a daily basis prior to enrollment. The addictions that they have range from drugs and alcohol to shopping, internet and cell phone abuse.
A lot of work has gone into the shaping of this new curriculum to incorporate current treatment methods and new discoveries in the science of addiction. This new adjunct dovetails beautifully into what we know and do well at Timber Ridge Prep, namely the specialized treatment of adolescent girls. We have dubbed this new curriculum "Young Women in Recovery" and will focus on discussion, new workbooks and DVDs. Homework will generally be given on a weekly basis. DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) skills will be prominently featured in this treatment method. We feel this new curriculum will greatly surpass our old substance abuse model to the benefit of our students.
