Three Springs at Englishton Park will open a new Substance Abuse treatment program for adolescents on September 1, 2009. The program is currently accepting referrals. Dana Thomas, the Administrator at Three Springs at Englishton Park stated, "The addition of the Substance Abuse program will allow us to address the needs of youth with a primary diagnosis of substance abuse or those with a co-occurrence of behavioral health issues and substance abuse." The evidence-based program will utilize Gorski methodology for relapse prevention, motivational interviewing and education that teaches youth key strategies to identify potentially high-risk circumstances around use, and ways to manage urges and cravings as a means to facilitate abstinence.
Clinician, Cheryl Ritter, LMHC, CADAC IV supervises the new program. "We believe that as part of the therapeutic community, residents can gain skills to develop self-motivation for recovery by first identifying and then changing the negative patterns of behavior, thinking and feeling that led them to substance use." Key components of the program include biopsychosocial assessment and substance abuse evaluations, individual, group and family therapy with Substance abuse counseling 5 days a week. Phases of the program include orientation and education, primary treatment, reunification and re-entry. Students enrolled in the program attend school on campus for educational based needs including, but not limited to GED. Independent living skills training will be also be offered. "We're looking forward to expanding our services to offer a full continuum of care. This is a first step toward our planned program growth," said Ms. Thomas.
