The King's Daughters' School is proud to announce the opening of Malone Place on August 20, 2010, a new residence home for our growing young adult population. Malone Place is named after the late William T. (Bill) Malone, who was a local dentist and long-time supporter of the school. The home is located at 903 School Street, which is just around the corner from our main campus in Columbia, TN. Malone Place has now become home for four young men.
Since The Young Adult Academy (YAA) began several years ago, it has not stopped growing! Many students who attend KDS's school-age educational program choose to stay and continue their academic and life skills training. Other young adults enroll in The YAA to get a similar college experience to that of their typically functioning peers.
The YAA focuses on several key areas of development: community integration, life skills, math, reading, listening skills, appropriate touch and social skills. The goal of the YAA is to promote independence, so that these individuals can be as self sufficient as possible, whether they choose to return home to live with family or transition into the Adult Lifestyles Program that KDS also offers.
At the King's Daughters' School we pride ourselves on being able to serve a wide range of children and adults with various developmental disabilities. If you know of a family that may benefit from our services, please contact us or share our information with them. We are always happy to help.
The King's Daughters' School serves the educational, vocational, life skills and social training needs of children and adults with developmental disabilities, mental retardation and autism (IQ 40-74), offering several programs to best suit these needs.
