The Save A Sister initiative goals are to promote breast cancer awareness through outreach activities, distribute education materials, and raise funds to improve women's access and understanding for screening mammography, as well as support post-operative durable goods that are often not paid for by insurance. All funds stay in the Flathead Valley.
To support this initiative one of our female students at Summit Preparatory School in Kalispell, MT, has planned a walk-a-thon for our entire campus community. "I hope to make a difference to families being affected by breast cancer. A few years ago my mom passed away from breast cancer and since then I have wanted to give to families who are going through what my family did."
Sarafina shares her passion for this project and is looking forward to the Walk-a-thon on November 20. She is anticipating about 60 students and staff members will participate. Initially donation requests went made to only Summit families and staff, but knowing the funds are for Flathead families has heightened interest in the local community to contribute. There has been an interest by some educational consultants and other professionals to sponsor students in this event.
Students will walk the mile-long loop on Summit's campus. Donations can be made for a set amount or to sponsor a particular student per lap.
