Jason Calder, LMFT, LCPC, a Summit Preparatory School, Kalispell, Montana, boys' team therapist, has been invited to speak at the National NATSAP Conference to be held in Austin, TX in January 2009 on the topic of: Comic Strip Conversations: A Supportive Intervention for NLD and Asperger's Disorder.

In his work with adolescents either diagnosed with or having traits of NLD (nonverbal learning disorder) and Aspergers, Jason reports significant success with "comic strip conversations". In his presentation, he gives others hands-on knowledge about this technique, showing samples of comic strips his past students have drawn to help them dialog about an event. He also provides time for the participants to practice the process in small group settings.

Jason has presented at several conferences; most recently October 2008 at the NE Regional NATSAP Conference in Kennebunkport, Maine. If you would like more information about the comic strip conversation technique, please contact Jason Calder at jcalder@summitprepschool.org, or attend his next presentation at NATSAP in January.

Comic Strip Conversations work extremely well not only with children with Asperger's or NLD, but with children demonstrating other issues as well. Many kids love to draw comics and love the visual that a comic strip conversation entails. I have used this technique many times in my practice, especially with kids who have trouble with the traditional talk therapy. This presentation will be a wonderful session to attend.
