When Tragedy Strikes - A Narrative & Case Study of an OBH Accredited Program
Presented by: Will White, Nichol Ernst, Anson McNulty and Andrew Farris
On February 16, 2015, Adam Tsapis, co-founder of Summit Achievement, was killed in a kite skiing accident on a lake in Maine. Within hours of Adam's passing, members of the Summit Leadership Team were deluged with emails, phone calls, and texts, along with visits from reporters and others asking for information. All of this was happening, while trying to help Adam's family deal with his tragic passing and simultaneously running the day-to-day operations of an OBH program.
This narrative account will review the hours, weeks, and months after Adam's passing from the different perspectives of several members of Summit's Leadership Team. It will also review how OBH accreditation helped make the process a little easier.
Our Mission: To foster lasting change for students and families using residential treatment, classroom academics, and outdoor adventures in an evidence-based and clinically-driven community.
