Stone Mountain School, a boarding school for boys ages 11-17, is pleased to announce new Clinical Director, Leigh Uhlenkott.
Leigh is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Mental Health Counselor and is nationally certified. Much of her professional experience before joining Stone Mountain included work with troubled youth in therapeutic wilderness, hospital and school settings. Leigh spent the past five years working with adolescent boys ages 13-18 at SUWS of the Carolinas providing assessment and counseling services. She also worked for five years counseling severely emotionally disturbed children and their families both in the Broward school system and for Memorial Hospital. Leigh also has worked with victims of domestic violence. She holds a masters degree in Mental Health Counseling.
"We are delighted to round out our leadership team with Leigh," said Stone Mountain's Executive Director Susan Hardy. "Her extensive background working as a clinician in a large school system and as a therapist in a wilderness setting, working with boys and their families, is truly a wonderful skill set to lead the counseling department at Stone Mountain School."
Leigh plans to explore and identify more creative avenues to integrate academic, therapeutic and residential goals to better meet Stone Mountain's students' needs.
"I am very excited to join the Stone Mountain family," said Leigh. "As a clinician, I believe that every student can benefit from a combination of individual, group and family therapy, and that we can all grow and learn new ways of communicating effectively. It is my aspiration to build upon the existing structure at Stone Mountain, to continue to support and meet the needs of families, students, consultants and staff."
Stone Mountain School is located on a 100-acre mountain setting campus in western North Carolina. The program offers group and individual therapy with specialized academics. Stone Mountain creates a caring yet highly structured community by setting living and academic group size limits. Staff teach the ADHD and NLD students self-regulation and social skills while implementing the Stage System. Personal development is at the core of Stone Mountain, assisting young men toward responsible, self-managing behavior. In addition, Stone Mountain offers numerous outdoor activities that have both a recreation and therapeutic benefit.
