As the gateway to our program, Katie Vena will be working with families in need of residential services as well as professionals who may want to refer a client for services. To assist families and professionals, Katie will conduct the intake process by completing initial telephone screenings, gathering medical records, and helping families and referents make a smooth and timely transition to our program.

She holds a Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Purdue. She also holds a bachelors degree in Psychology from Purdue. While in graduate school, she helped to coauthor an article on an expressive arts technique that was published in: Integrating the Expressive Arts Into Counseling Practice, by Suzanne Degges-White and Nancy L. Davis. Katie's work experience includes assisting the forensic interviewer at Dunebrook Mental Health Services in conjunction with Detectives and Child Protection Services employees to prevent child abuse in the LaPorte, Indiana. She was also employed by the LaPorte Hospital as a psych tech working in the stress center's inpatient adolescent unit. In January 2010, Katie completed her internship with us at our South Shore Academy program in Valparaiso, Indiana.

Katie is a member of CHI SIGMA IOTA, an international honor society for students, professional Counselors, and counseling educators. She also volunteers every year in an annual hospice walk with family members.

Staff have commented that Katie has an ability to quickly connect with residents and families. She is married and resides in Valparaiso, Indiana with her three furry cats and dog.

Please feel free to contact Katie directly at 888-629-3471, ext. 106 and by email at katie.Vena@uhsinc.com.
