We are excited to announce that Dr. Therese Moriarty, Neuropsychologist, has joined the Sober College Clinical Team. As part of the development of each student's individualized treatment plan, Dr. Moriarty will conduct the intake neuropsychological assessments with all Sober College students. Dr. Moriarty's experience in the field of Neuropsychology and Addiction makes her an integral part of Sober College's dual-diagnosis treatment model.

Dr. Moriarty earned her bachelors in Psychology from University of Southern California; her masters in Counseling Psychology from Boston College; and her Doctorate in Psychology from Pepperdine University. As part of her doctoral training, Dr. Moriarty received specialized training in brain structures, functions, disease, , diagnosis, treatment, cognitive development and functioning, and general and neuropsychological assessment. After school, Dr. Moriarty worked in private practice at Neuropsychological Consultant, Inc., Sports Concussion Institute and Los Angeles Neuropsychology Group for two years where she conducted neuropsychological evaluations, diagnosed, and outlined treatment plans for adolescents, young adults, and adults.

Over the last ten years, Dr. Moriarty's research has focused on women with drug abuse and mental disorders, rehabilitation centers, young adults in the juvenile justice and delinquency prevention, and college students from different Universities. While working with "Tools for Tomorrow," Dr. Moriarty implemented a curriculum that is more effective in helping high-school students living in inner cities. She also supervised the implantation of the "Going for the Goal program, which helps middle school students learn methods of setting and achieving goals by pairing them with college students. Dr. Moriarty has gained invaluable insight and knowledge into the fields of Neuropsychology and Addiction in young adults.

According to Sober College founder Robert Pfeifer, "What makes Dr. Moriarty so great for Sober College students is her understanding of young adults and wealth of knowledge about incorporating education and sociological factors into treatment. College students are so multifaceted that we have to be able to meet them at all their levels of interest."

Dr. Moriarty uses psychological, neurological, cognitive, behavioral and physiological principles, technique and tests to evaluate students' neurocognitive, behavioral, and emotional strengths and weaknesses, and their relationship to normal and abnormal central nervous system functioning. Using her expertise alongside Sober College's treatment team, Dr. Moriarty is able to diagnose neurobehavioral disorders and help plan intervention strategies.

The addition of Dr. Moriarty's expertise to the Sober College Clinical Team gives Sober College an even better understanding of each student's individual dual-diagnosis needs so we can help our students gain a better understanding of themselves. With this more thorough understanding of each student, Sober College continues to fulfill its primary purpose of providing the most beneficial, individualized, and up-to-date treatment plan possible. The addition of Dr. Moriarty brings us even closer to our goal of helping our student's combat addiction to drugs and alcohol by equipping them with the tools for successful independent living.
