While recording his new album in Los Angeles, Reggae luminary, Kevens paid a visit to the Woodland Hills Campus to celebrate his birthday with students and faculty. Kevens, whose roots with the Marley family run deep, brought a powerful presence to the community as he focused on a message of spirituality and hope for the New Year.
Kevens addressed the student body with an uplifting message, urging them to make the right choices for their future. "You are full of infinite possibility and have a unique and rewarding journey ahead of you, he began. "I applaud you for your efforts to better yourselves and to live a life of courage." A feeling of warmth filled the classroom as students sang happy birthday and presented a homemade vegan cake to the Miami native.
"We were honored to host Kevens birthday and grateful that he has taken an interest in speaking with our students. Being in the Los Angeles area allows our students access to experience all kinds of wonderful outlets. Every week we have something exciting happening on campus; our students never know what to expect," commented Loree Cohen, LCSW, Clinical Director."
Before heading back to the studio, Kevens listened to tracks in Sober College's state of the art production studio, giving pointers and making recommendations to the students. Kevens got student, Jake R., out of his comfort zone by having him match his vocals with non-traditional beats. "I was really inspired by some of the things Kevens said today. I have a passion for music and really look up to him. I am going to make some changes to my work and hopefully it will be the final touch they need," said Jake R.
When asked what Maggie D. thought of the day's activity, she grinned and replied, "This rehab is really, really cool!"
