LA AMISTAD BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ACHIEVES JCAHO ACCREDITATION
(March 16, 2001) Mary Cesare-Murhy, Ph.D., Executive Director of La Amistad Residential Treatment Center in Maitland, Florida, 407-647-0600, announced they had “achieved accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, with a score of 93, and no Type I recommendations. WARDLE AND OWENS JOIN SKYLINE JOURNEY
(May 8, 2001) Lee Ann Fielding, Admissions coordinator for Skyline Journey, Nephi, Utah, 866-822-8336, a new short-term wilderness program, announced Mark Wardle has joined them as Program Manager. He has 11 years experience in wilderness programs, most recently with SageWalk in Oregon and On Track in Texas. Derrin Owens, a public school educator for the past 10 years, has joined the staff as Academic Coordinator. Chris McRoberts, Ph.D. licensed clinical psychologist, will be doing all psychological and educational testing, and Kevin Knutson, L.C.S.W. who has years of experience working with teens, will be field therapist.

WASHINGTON POST LAUDS PROGRAMS
(May 14, 2001) An article in the Washington Post, titled “Traditional Approach To Spiritual Values,” described programs using Native American traditions for struggling teens. Positive examples of this approach included Peninsula Village, in Louisville, Tenn., Three Springs of North Carolina, in Pittsboro, North Carolina, and the Anasazi Foundation, in Mesa, Arizona.

MT. CARMEL YOUTH RANCH DEDICATES NEW DORM
(May 21, 2001) Gerald Schneider, founder of Mt. Carmel Youth Ranch, also known as Schneider Ranch, Clark, Wyoming, 307-645-3384, announced the dedication of the new Studer family bunkhouse on June 16th. The bunkhouse will be a dormitory and home to 12 young men. The celebration included a ribbon cutting ceremony and brief remarks by Educational Consultant Lon Woodbury, IECA, Certified Educational Planner from Idaho, who is publisher of the Woodbury Reports newsletter and the directory, “Places for StrugglingTeens.”

ON TRACK PROGRAM FOR 12-YEAR-OLDS
(May 30, 2001) Henry Fankhauser, Admissions Counselor for On Track, a Texas Wilderness program, 888-791-2577, that is part of the Brown Schools, announced they have created a summer therapeutic adventure experience for 12-year olds. The “25-day summer session is designed to provide young children with a journey of physical exploration, team building, and self-discovery.” The program starts on July 1 and August 1, and will be on the 6,000-acre Mason Mountain Wildlife Management Area in the Texas Hill Country.

WWASP ANNOUNCES NEW POLICY FOR REFERRAL CREDIT
(May 30, 2001) The World Wide Association of Specialty Programs, St. George, Utah, 435-656-2313 has “set forth a new policy regarding referrals. In order to qualify for a Referral Credit, parents must refer others back to the Admission and Intake/Marketing Company who admitted their child. DALLEY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AT RED ROCK CANYON SCHOOL
(May 31, 2001) Red Rock Canyon School, St. George, Utah, 435-673-6111, announced Abe Dalley became the Executive Director of the treatment center last Spring. Dalley, who has 12 years experience both in wilderness and Residential treatment, most recently helped create Sunhawk Academy.

ASCENT SPECIALIZED COURSES
(May 31, 2001) Paul Johnson, Admissions Director, 800-97401999, for Ascent, A Brown School program in Naples, Idaho, announced two courses for girls, one running from June 15 to June 22, and the other between July 14 and July 21. A course for younger children ages 12 to 14, will be offered that will run from June 22 to June 30.

RED ROCK CANYON SCHOOL WILDERNESS
(June 1, 2001) Abe Dalley, Executive Director of Red Rock Canyon School, St. George, Utah, 435-673-6111, announced an expansion of their program to provide a wilderness experience. Dalley stated “We recognize the value of Wilderness in taking the lead in preparing a student for long term care.” The field Director is Clint Dalley and his assistant is Jason Barchi.

HIGH PEAKS WILDERNESS, INC. CELEBRATES THIRD YEAR OF OPERATION
(June 4, 2001) Gabe Reynolds, Marketing Director of High Peaks Wilderness, Roosevelt, UT, 435-722-0958, anounced they are celebrating their year of operation, with Scott Hammond now heading their admissions department. They recently extended their license to 30 participants and have teamed up with “Answers 4” to help provide an in depth information database for consultants, parents, and others who are involved with each client.

ADOLESCENT FAMILY SERVICES VISITS WOODBURY REPORTS
(June 1, 2001) Ron Jones, President, and Brian Ennis, Vice President of Adolescent Family Services Inc., a youth transportation agency located in Bonners Ferry, Idaho 866-222-4299 and 208-444-0656, stopped by Woodbury Reports Inc. to announce their new company that provides transport services. Both Jones and Ennis have several years’ experience doing youth transport for emotional growth and therapeutic boarding schools and programs.

NORTH IDAHO STANDOFF
(June 5, 2001) Regular updates, available at the RuralNorthwest.com web site describe the situation near Sandpoint, Idaho, where five children are holed up in their home, refusing contact with the police, after their mother was arrested. The Ruralnorthwest.com website is the other side of Woodbury Reports Inc. publisher, Lon Woodbury, has assigned a reporter to to sift the fact from the rumor in regards to the Department of Health and Welfare’s attempt to help these children.

EDUCATIONAL CONNECTIONS, LLC OPENS
(June 11, 2001) Ann Locke Davidson, Ph.D. and Patricia Phelan, Ph.D. IECA provisional members, have opened Educational Connections, LLC, (503) 478-9727, an educational consulting firm, in Portland, Oregon. Formerly holding academic positions at the University of Washington with backgrounds in educational anthropology, emphasising at-risk youth, they spent the last three years visiting and assessing special needs programs throughout the country.

SUWS DOCUMENTARY ON PUBLIC TV
(June 11, 2001) Sue Crowell, Executive Director of SUWS, (208) 934-8917, announced, “Boys Will Be Men,” funded by private foundations and distributed through National Public Television, will soon be airing in various regions nationwide. This SUWS documentary “examines the struggles young men and their families encounter and recognize the personal growth made in the course of a SUWS experience.”

PACIFIC CREST OUTWARD BOUND NEW COURSES
