Skyland Trail, a nationally recognized nonprofit treatment organization for adults with mental illness, is pleased to welcome Christina Mitrisin, CPS, and Emmanuel Verret as activity counselors.
In their new role, Mitrisin and Verret will provide therapeutic activities and outings for Skyland Trail clients as a part of the Life Enrichment Adult Program (LEAP). This program provides a variety of opportunities for clients to form relationships, learn skills and cultivate hobbies and interests. LEAP takes place on week nights and weekends.
"Social interaction, structured activity, and healthy relationships are vital aspects of recovery and living a fulfilling life," Shelley Danser, coordinator of adjunctive therapies states. "Participating in LEAP allows a person to experience these opportunities in a safe, structured, non-threatening environment."
Both Mitrisin and Verret graduated from Skyland Trail's treatment program and are part of the alumni program. Mitrisin completed training in July 2014 to become a certified peer counselor.
The LEAP Program is a part of the adjunctive therapies program at Skyland Trail. It is acclaimed as a breakthrough in engaging clients in recovery.
