Skyland Trail recently welcomed Jeffrey S. Holloway, MSW, to the admissions team. As a member of the admissions team, Holloway provides information about the integrated treatment program at Skyland Trail to potential clients and their families and conducts admissions assessments. In addition, Holloway employs his extensive background with the independent education community to build connections between Skyland Trail and educational consultants, school counselors and other professionals who may work with teens and young adults in need of residential or non-residential psychiatric treatment.
"Our unique campus-like environment is ideal for young adults," says Holloway. "They learn about their mental illness in classroom-like settings and then participate in a weekly schedule of clinically structured activities. In 2012, 50 percent of our admissions were young adults ages 18 to 25."
The young adult recovery community at Skyland Trail focuses on helping clients understand and reduce symptoms, express their thoughts and feelings in healthy ways, practice independent living skills (including medication adherence) and find effective ways to interact with peers and build relationships. In addition to individual and group psychotherapy sessions, activities include art, music and horticultural therapy; exercise and recreational therapy; nutrition, cooking and wellness education; and vocational services to take steps to return to school or enter the workforce.
Prior to joining Skyland Trail, Holloway held positions as assistant headmaster at Brandon Hall School, southeast regional liaison at Aspen Education Group, and assistant headmaster at Hidden Lake Academy. He also served in professional roles with Crittendon Center, Boys and Girls Home of Nebraska, Child Connect, and Boys and Girls Home and Family Services. Holloway is a member of the Council of Parents Attorney and Advocates and recently joined the NATSAP Best Practices Committee. He earned a bachelor's degree in social work from University of South Dakota and a master's degree in social work from University of Iowa.
