March, 2010

As the winter season comes to a close; a few weeks ago there was a beautiful, white blanket of snow that covered Shepherd's Hill Farm. Some say it was the most snow they can recall seeing at SHF. The snow brought a sense of stillness and tranquility to the farm. But the quiet was soon over ridden by the resident boys who forgot all their troubles as they frolicked in the snow and enjoyed this gift from God. Some of the troubled teens took the opportunity to initiate a snow ball fight, while others built snow forts. A number of the boys took advantage of all the snow and used their strength and creative skills to build a six foot tall snowman. The snowman stood valiantly near the campus and looked as if it was guarding SHF's Christian boarding school.

Now, a tinge of green is seen over the 17 acre pasture at Shepherd's Hill Farm as the grasses and trees are gearing up for spring. The squirrels are scurrying. The wild daffodils are in bloom. The robins, cardinals, woodpeckers, and many other birds rejoice to the change of seasons. Even though it was a long cold winter, God blesses us once again with the beauty and new life of spring. The nights are still chilly at SHF, and the resident boys continue working steadily chopping and collecting firewood to warm their cabins.

Keeping troubled teens out of trouble means engaging them in constructive projects, and doing it all for the glory of God. The resident boys are currently undertaking the project of building a new outdoor lavatory for their campsite. Our staff counselors collaborate with the students to endure future projects. This summer they are contemplating building a new tool shed, and restructuring the bridge that crosses the stream to their campsite. Another idea, which is brewing in the works, is an addition of a new dining hall to the café.

Shepherd's Hill Farm is a Christian Boarding School; outdoor residential program located on an 80 acre wilderness facility for troubled youth ages 13-17 struggling with a variety of negative behaviors. We are equipped with a completely devoted Christian staff that uses biblical principles in a loving authoritative community environment.
