As summer is rapidly approaching, we wanted to take a moment to share information with you on two new programs we will be offering at Second Nature beginning in June 2009. These new programs were carefully developed to meet the evolving needs of our students and their families.
SECOND NATURE INSIGHTS:
We are delighted to introduce Second Nature Insights, a short-term therapeutic wilderness intervention for adolescents. Insights is a 28-day program (plus 4-day transition experience), carefully designed to address the specific needs of struggling adolescents whose issues are less severe, who are willing to enroll and are, therefore, likely to engage more readily in treatment. The program focuses on assessment and preparation for home or aftercare. Insights has special admissions and exclusionary criteria and will not be appropriate for students best served in our longer term wilderness programs. Please contact the Second Nature Admissions team for additional information.
Insights will operate year-round and offer rolling admissions on Mondays, beginning June 15, 2009 at our Second Nature Cascades location in Bend, Oregon.
THE JOURNEY - SUMMER SIBLING GROUPS AT SECOND NATURE:
This summer, Second Nature will launch two specialty-group sessions. These groups were designed specifically for siblings of children who have participated in wilderness or residential treatment. The Journey is a 21-day backpacking expedition. Participants will explore sibling and family dynamics and learn to identify, express, and work through potential feelings of grief, loneliness, anger, and even guilt regarding the absence of their sibling. Participants will share their stories with other group members, finding similarity, connection, and affirmation in common ground. The experience will provide multiple opportunities for personal growth, improved self-esteem and family healing.
The Journey will operate this summer and offer two sessions this summer for student's, ages: 13 - 17
Boys Group - June 21 - July 11, 2009
Girl's Group - July 27 - August 16, 2009
Please don't hesitate to call the Second Nature Admissions Team with questions regarding Insights or The Journey Summer Sibling Groups. We look forward to speaking with you about these exciting new programs!
