John and Julia Schrom have officially opened "Schrom Boys Home", a family-style therapeutic program for male adolescents, ages 13-18. Please check-out our website: www.schromboyshome.com.
Schrom Boys Home has been a long-sought after dream of ours and with my leaving the Executive Director's position at Northwest Academy, the timing was right for our dream to come to frutition.
I am excited to get back to the reason I began working with adolescents 25 years ago - direct contact and impact on their lives. My concern over the past several years is the number of placement failures due to students getting "lost" in the larger boarding schools. Our goal is to build self-confidence through success experiences in interpersonal relationships, academics, appropriate socialization opportunities, "urban survival skills" (cooking, finances, career exploration, etc), sobriety, empathy development, etc. Our relationship-based approach challenges our students' to internalize new realistic self and world views. I will provide therapy for students and help them to gain an understanding of what is driving their behaviors. Substance use/abuse will be addressed therapeutically and use of 12-step philosophy will be employed, as needed. Knowledge is Power.
Student Profile:
Our students have struggled with motivation and have become misguided, losing what was once important to them. Our students grapple with one or more of the following issues:
- Adoption
- Depression
- Family Conflicts
- Self-Confidence
- Entitlement
- Interpersonal Relationship
- Substance Use/Abuse
- School Truancy
- Medication Management
- Anger Management
- Video/Computer Addiction
- Academic Failure
- Opposition
Our all inclusive tuition is $5000 per month with a three month minimum. A $2500 enrollment fee which covers all ancillary expenses. This eliminates the need to bill parents for miscellaneous fees.
Length of stay is dependent on the student and his ability to show consistency in his interactions with others, coping behaviors, and family relationships. We anticipate length of stay to take up to nine months or more. One of our main goals is to assist with family reunification and have students return to their homes as soon as possible, unless contraindicated.
Students will attend our community high school. IEP and 504 plans will be implemented, if the student has one in place.
This is a wonderful opportunity for a student to live with a therapist and address issues that limit success!
SUCCESS HAS NEVER BEEN SO CLOSE
I look forward to working with you, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email.
