We are pleased to announce that SavingTeens has just awarded another scholarship to a family in need. It brings the total number of families receiving support from SavingTeens so far this year to 12.
The family was referred to SavingTeens by Connie M. Wood MS, founder and owner of A Circle of Hope. Connie is a therapeutic educational consultant and an individual member of both NATSAP and IECA.
This 14 year-old presented with diagnoses of ADHD and Depression, and a history of impulsivity, irritability, and low self esteem. After being caught selling drugs at school, he was expelled. Police involvement led to the police liaison recommendation of a residential therapeutic program.
Without appropriate treatment, this young man would likely fall into escalating drug use, continuing legal issues and increased levels of depression.
A combination of SavingTeens scholarship funding, steeply discounted tuition from Elevations RTC, family participation, and pro bono services from both Connie Wood and SUWS Carolinas (negotiated by Ms. Wood as an interim placement while we worked on a longer term residential program), truly made this a collaborative effort, consistent with our organization's full name, "Saving Teens in Crisis Collaborative." We at SavingTeens have been inspired by the dedication of this "village," and offer our deepest thanks to all as we continue our mission to support the appropriate interventions and treatment for young people in need.
