Sandhill Child Development Center, a residential treatment program in Los Lunas, NM, is pleased to announce that Bruce Perry, M.D., Ph.D., pre-eminent neurobiologist, psychiatrist, author, researcher, founder and Senior Fellow of the Child Trauma Academy in Houston, Texas, will be visiting Sandhill Center during the first week of March 2008 to provide advanced training for Sandhill clinicians and staff. Dr. Perry will focus on the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT), a cutting edge clinical treatment model derived from Dr. Perry's neurobiological research and study. The training is part of a developing clinical partnership between Dr. Perry's Child Trauma Academy and Sandhill Center.

The Child Trauma Academy indicates that NMT is a "developmentally-informed, biologically-respectful approach to working with at-risk children, This clinical approach helps professionals determine the strengths and vulnerabilities of a given child and create individualized intervention, enrichment and educational plans for children." The NMT model perfectly complements and enhances Sandhill's relationship-based, neuro-regulatory approach to treating children aged 5 to 13 who are experiencing significant difficulties in functioning at home, school or in their communities due to an inability to regulate their emotional states.
