In the last five years Sandhill has seen a dramatic increase in children diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum and currently this applies to one third of our population. The Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics has proven to be an excellent fit for these children because of the neuroregulatory focus.
At Sandhill we individualize strategies and interventions to meet the needs of each child. Many of the kids on the spectrum benefit from using the "Hug Machine" developed by autism expert Temple Grandin. This device provides deep pressure stimulation that proves calming to the central nervous system.
We are so excited about our most recent addition, a floatation tank! This provides our kids with a low stimulation calming environment that allows them to hit the "reset" button when experiencing sensory overload.
Click here for a nice explanation of how this works for kids on the spectrum.
Recognizing the unique needs of these kids, we employ many tools to help with sensory integration, self-regulation, and social skill development. The success we are having with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder is very exciting!

Sandhill Child Development Center is a residential program for children between the ages of 5 and 14 who are experiencing significant difficulties functioning in their current home environments, schools, or communities due to an inability to regulate their emotional states. The goal is to create an environment that facilitates intense, gratifying personal relationships, while at the same time confronting those behaviors that interfere with establishing close personal bonds. Sandhill gives the child the tools necessary to proceed with healthy childhood development.
