John Franzen, M.D., has joined the medical staff at Rogers Memorial Hospital as an adult psychiatrist specializing in addiction medicine. Dr. Franzen primarily works with patients at the Herrington Recovery Center in Oconomowoc.
A graduate of the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), Dr. Franzen completed his psychiatry residency at the University of Hawaii-Honolulu and at UNMC-Creighton and has a theology degree from Creighton University. Over the years, Dr. Franzen has participated in many medical service trips in India, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Nicaragua.
"I thoroughly enjoyed this unique and valuable part of my training," Dr. Franzen said. "The service trips were not only enjoyable, but reinforced service to others as an important value of mine. I have noticed how the pursuit of happiness can be very elusive and can lead many with good intentions down unintended paths. That's why I'm passionate about providing excellent psychiatric care to everyone that I see and helping those with addiction to live a happier, healthier and more satisfied life."
Prior to joining the addiction treatment staff at Herrington Recovery Center, Dr. Franzen worked as an adult psychiatric hospitalist at Bryan LGH Hospital and provided inpatient behavioral services at Faith Regional Health Services, both in Nebraska.
Dr. Franzen is a co-author on a number of journal articles related to neuroimaging and ADHD, serving as an ad hoc reviewer in multiple peer-reviewed scientific journals. He said his interest in research has helped him to develop a better understanding of the science behind psychiatric illness.
Rogers Memorial Hospital is currently ranked #7 in the country for mental health services and is a key corporation of Rogers Behavioral Health System, which also includes: Rogers Memorial Hospital Foundation, Inc.; Rogers Partners in Behavioral Health, LLC; Rogers Center for Research and Training; and Rogers InHealth.
