Rogers' Dr. Brad Riemann To
Participate In World Congress Of
Cognitive And Behavioural Therapies

Bradley C. Riemann, Ph.D., clinical director of the Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Center and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Services at Rogers Memorial Hospital, will be among international leaders reviewing state-of-the-art cognitive behavioral therapy at the 7th World Congress of Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies (WCBCT). This year's congress is scheduled for July 22-25 in Lima, Peru.

One of the country's leading specialists in the assessment of OCD and anxiety disorders and use of CBT treatment, Dr. Riemann will be a panelist for the symposium "Recent Advances in Pediatric Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder" on Tuesday, July 23, and for the clinical roundtable "Handling Comorbidity, Varieties of Symptom Presentation and Parental Involvement in the Treatment of Youth with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder" on Thursday, July 25.

Tuesday's WCBCT symposium will address pediatric OCD, a chronic and debilitating disorder. Occurring in up to 2 percent of children and adolescents, pediatric OCD is associated with substantial psychosocial impairment and runs a chronic course into adulthood if left untreated. The panelists will address its impact during childhood and proven-effective interventions available today.

During Thursday's session, panelists will discuss recent research demonstrating that child and adult OCD responds well to CBT and the fact that many studies focus on children who have other diagnoses and/or complications (comorbidity) that might interfere with treatment. Roundtable panelists will address some of the major factors that contribute to poor outcomes and discuss methods that can successfully impact treatment.

Being held for the first time in South America, the WCBCT occurs every three years and provides an opportunity for researchers and clinicians from around the globe to meet and discuss "state-of-the-art" CBT across its many applications and throughout the world.
