After almost two decades of pioneering wilderness therapy, Dr. Daniel Sanderson announced he is leaving RedCliff Ascent.

"Doc" Dan joined RedCliff shortly after the company began in 1993. Since then he has helped thousands of troubled teens and their families find help and healing through effective wilderness therapy.

"It's been an amazing journey," Dan says. "I have done what I want to be able to consider some incredible things and worked with some incredible people. I have given wilderness therapy a language that no one else has been able to incorporate and I've helped make the wilderness a place where real therapy can gain traction.

"I want to acknowledge and recognize the courage of the students that I've worked with over the years. I'm grateful to have been a part of a number of miraculous journeys in that process and to have watched lives unfold.

"I also want to express appreciation and recognition to parents and referring professionals who had faith in me and recognized that I knew what I was doing and trusted me with the lives of those who have been most precious to them."

While he will no longer be involved in the day to day operations at RedCliff, Doc Dan says he anticipates providing ancillary therapy services as his schedule allows.

RedCliff Executive Director Andrea Burgess adds, "It has truly been my good fortune to have worked next to Dan for nearly 18 years. To have learned from him, problem solved with him, and created a program that has helped thousands of students and families. He has been a true mentor, co-pilot and friend. He has been tirelessly committed to the idea that treatment is tough work and that the clinicians at RedCliff Ascent will do that tough work with students and their families."

RedCliff Ascent is a therapeutic wilderness program for troubled teens ages 13-17 who are on a developmental vacation, our term for a disrupted or incomplete pattern of development. Located on the high desert plateaus of Southern Utah, RedCliff Ascent covers an area of approximately 650 square miles. RedCliff is not a boot camp, adventure camp, or any other kind of camp. Our model of teen help is based on respect, trust, and the understanding that your child is more than just a diagnosis.
