Brad Freed, Executive Director of Red Hill Academy (RHA), announces the grand opening of the new campus-based school program for high school age children with learning challenges and the mild to moderate emotional disturbances that often accompany those challenges.

"These are kids that have really suffered in other educational environments. They are bright and creative, but really struggling with organization, with academics, and with making friends and feeling at home. We're able to help them learn how to navigate the complexities of high school, how to advocate for themselves, how to form social and emotional connections that are really meaningful to them. Red Hill Academy offers our students their very first opportunity to succeed and realize their potential, both academically and in their relationships with other people," explained Freed.

"I have a sense of hopefulness [about my child] that I have not had for a long time," said a parent of a student enrolled at RHA. "I have been looking for a long time for a place that would work for my son. I have looked all over California. This is the first time that some place really felt like it fit."

"We are very excited about the innovative aspects of RHA," said Freed. "This is a brand new type of program, something that is really needed in California as the incidences of Learning Differences, Autism, and other challenges continue to rise. These children and their families have a unique set of needs that RHA is extremely well-positioned to meet. To have a campus-based program for this particular population of students is something completely new, and something that we think hundreds of students and parents are looking for."

Students at Red Hill Academy face learning challenges that include dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, NLD (Nonverbal Learning Disorder), ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and Asperger's Disorder. Emotional and behavioral problems faced by students include social immaturity and isolation, anxiety, depression and low self esteem, and difficulty with organization, completing tasks, or making and maintaining friendships. "The specialized programs at RHA are able to, for the first time, address both their unique learning needs and their concurrent emotional challenges," said Robin Hughes, Admissions Director of Red Hill Academy.

Red Hill Academy features three distinct programs: the Academic Program, the After School Program, and the Residential Program. Each of the three programs has a clinical overlay, and the After School Program is available as a stand-alone for students attending other schools who are looking for structured and therapeutically enriching after school activities. The Residential Program is available only in conjunction with the Academic Program. All three RHA programs are tuition-based.

Red Hill Academy's leadership team has over 60 years of combined experience and expertise in the fields of education and mental health.

Red Hill Academy is located on a 35 acre campus in San Anselmo, CA (formerly the Sunny Hills Services Residential Program Campus). Students are accepted to Red Hill Academy through a rolling admissions process, and applications are currently being accepted for fall 2008 enrollment.
