Red Hawk is officially open and the first student is settling in. Red Hawk, a RTC for adolescent females is located in Littlefield, AZ., just outside Mesquite, NV. on a 10 acre homestead. The area was chosen for it’s peaceful surroundings for girls 12-17 who have had difficulty in their lives. It is designed with a mix of intense clinical work, outdoor recreation, Eagala model equine therapy, horseback riding, academics and Lifespan Integration in a small farm like environment. At Red Hawk relationships are a key to change and growth. It is an individualized program for twenty four girls on a diversified campus that specializes in Trauma, Adoption, ADHD, and the behaviors that are associated with them. These include, but are not limited to Depression, Anxiety, Substance Abuse, Familial Conflict, School Refusal, Poor Peer Selection, Promiscuity and Running Away. There is specific work on Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria, RSD, a forgotten piece of ADHD that is an extreme emotional sensitivity and emotional pain triggered by the perception, not necessarily the reality, that a person has been rejected, teased, or criticized by important people in their life. RSD may also be triggered by a sense of failure, or falling short, failing to meet either their own high standards or others’ expectations and the cycle of shame vs. cycle of hope. Another strong focus is the Cycle of Shame vs. Cycle of Hope. Sonny Faaootoa, Executive Director/Founder, has been in the field of teens at risk for 25 years. He received his bachelors from Utah Valley University and has worked with adjudicated youth as a juvenile probation officer and has been a Program Director/Administrator for several state and private treatment centers. His knowledge and ability to create relationships with adolescents brings a wonderful presence to the RTC. The other Founder is Valerie Faaootoa, LMSW, who received her BS from BYU and her Masters from University of Utah. Valerie’s talents will be used in the dual capacity of Admissions and Therapy. Her 14 years of experience of working with adolescents and passion for the outdoors fit perfectly to the modality of Red Hawk.
Red Hawk is a Residential Treatment Center in AZ that specializes in working with adolescent girls who are experiencing behavioral, social and mental health issues.
