Pure Life Aspiro in Costa Rica provides opportunities for those in need of a therapeutic adventure experience, but do not need a crisis intervention.
"We see a real need to provide a different type of wilderness option for individuals with gap or transition needs in their therapeutic process" says Josh Watson, Director of Marketing and Admissions at Aspiro. "At times, therapeutic transitional experiences are needed but solutions are limited. Pure Life Aspiro offers a unique wilderness option for individuals who have made progress and are ready to move forward in developing their executive function skills, social skills, and independent living skills."
Pure Life has been specifically designed for the client who is ready for the next step in their therapeutic growth, or might be slipping in their current environment and would benefit from a dynamic transitional experience.
This specialized adventure therapy program incorporates individual and group therapy, adventure activities and cultural immersion experiences in the beautiful country of Costa Rica. Our unique approach blends Costa Rican cultural-based experiences and community service with high-adventure activities in the central pacific coast and central mountain regions of Costa Rica.
Pure Life Aspiro's goal is a compelling one. We help our clients flourish in the present and beyond by working to improve their goal-oriented thinking, motivating them to achieve academic and occupational excellence, and finally to help them recognize their strengths and passions through a reflection of their life's path. Using positive psychology and a relational therapeutic approach, we develop: trust, intrinsic motivation, perseverance, integrity, conflict resolution skills, accountability, gratitude, solution-focused thinking, self-determination and grit.
Our clients have the option of a 30 -120-day program. For every 30 days the student is enrolled, they have the opportunity to earn technical skills and certifications in areas such as:
- Wilderness First Aid (WFA)
- High Ropes Rescue Training
- Swift Water Rescue Certification
Our students will also receive training and experience in activities such as whitewater hydrology and raft guiding on class III and IV rapids, surfing, rock climbing and sea kayaking. We are committed to the physical and emotional safety of our students. With these trainings our students will learn to facilitate high-adventure activities in a safe environment.
Pure Life Aspiro has a direct focus on community service and awareness of community systems. "The service work we do is one of the most powerful therapeutic components while in Costa Rica. It benefits both our students and the people in the communities we operate," said Andrew Taylor, SUDC, Program Director and student mentor. One of the core pillars of Pure Life's clinical foundation is utilizing exposure therapy within community and novel environments. This approach empowers our clients to practice skill sets that become transferable as they transition to the next phase of their life.
