Point School is serving 17-24 year old young men, centered around a structured and supervised living experience, individualized academic coaching and planning, and strengths-based clinical therapy.
Living in Puerto Rico is unlike anything in the Continental US. The warm Spanish culture welcomes students as a member of the community, not as a tourist. A strong middle class here models a balanced work ethic and importance of education, family, and community. Celebrations and events are inclusive and well attended.
Greetings and interactions with people here are both formal and friendly. Students slow down, develop relational skills, and gain experience in living in the moment. Citizens frequently travel to the mainland for work or family visits. New York is an inexpensive 3-hour flight from 4 major airports on the island.
Our small school, community-based program (8-12 students) allows us to work individually with each student to help them address impediments to success and plan their future. We provide individualized academic coaching and courses for both High School completion and College attendance and planning. Students typically are either pursuing High School graduation or attending college at Inter American University in Aguadilla, located a short distance from the Dorm.
Clinical services are delivered by a licensed Therapist who utilizes a strengths-based family systems model to improve student's relationship with family and help them recognize and minimize self-defeating behavior. Many families are struggling with setting limits and defining expectations and aspirations. Through a weekly process of individual therapy, family calls and correspondence, and clear expectations, students are able to set reasonable goals and develop healthy habits.
Students live in shared, single family houses which are supervised by our experienced Mentors. This safe and inclusive neighborhood here in Aguadilla is walking distance to beaches and numerous sports complexes. Mentors serve as guides to the local culture and provide individualized life skills coaching directed at students living cooperatively. This process is directed at a student's future independence.
We have 2 age-appropriate houses for our 17 to 24-year-old male students. Our profile includes failure to launch, inability to be successful at college or complete High School, and those graduating from Wilderness or Residential programs who need a continued structured and therapeutic environment.
Our minimum stay is 4 months. Please contact us at 787-245-9672 for information about Educational Consultants who currently have students with us.
