Many graduations come with a well-known commencement speaker such as an elected official, philanthropist or motivational speaker. This spring, the Pinnacle Schools decided to do things a little differently.

High school graduation is a special milestone for every young student. It marks the beginning of a new phase in their life as they begin college and embark on new adventures.

Each graduate of The Pinnacle Schools class of 2009 had their own commencement speaker. One by one parent's stepped up to the podium and spoke directly to their child. Parents shared their love, hopes and words of wisdom and congratulations. The ceremony was special and memorable for everyone in attendance.

Twelve students earned their diplomas this spring. Eight of these students graduated from The Pinnacle Schools and successfully completed the Elk River Challenge program. The other students were a part of the Pinnacle Academic Resource Center High School Program.

"These students have studied exceptionally hard," said Carah Lynn Billups, Academic Administrator, The Pinnacle Schools. "They have exceeded my expectations and I am overjoyed with their remarkable successes."

Many graduates plan on attending college or joining the military. Other graduates plan on taking community college courses before going to a four-year college. The spring 2009 graduates were accepted to the following colleges: University of Alabama Huntsville, University of Alabama Birmingham, University of South Alabama, Mississippi State University, Calhoun Community College and Motlow Community College.
"Education is one of the most powerful tools on the path to success," said Karen Lee, Founder & CEO, The Pinnacle Schools. "Every child that succeeds in academics builds confidence and self-respect. When teens feel good about themselves, they are more likely to make positive choices in their daily lives."
