Jason St. Mary, owner and founder of Peak Ascent Mentoring Services, has been awarded a Colorado Health Professions Scholarship to assist in his pursuit of a Masters in Social Work (MSW) through the University of Denver. The scholarship awards $30,000 towards tuition with an agreement that Jason will serve for at least two years in a rural/underserved environment upon completion of training. He is also expected to participate in a community service organization.
The scholarship targets students across Colorado who are attending graduate programs in a variety of health professions - nurse practitioners, physician assistants, behavioral health students and other types of medical degrees. A total of 15 scholarships were offered state-wide with only 2 recipients from Southwest Colorado.
The Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is a non-profit organization designed to improve the overall health of rural residents. The target population is medically underserved groups who face economic, cultural or linguistic barriers to health care or generally lack easy geographical access to services that are typically concentrated in big cities and suburban areas. The goals of the AHEC include:
- To improve distribution and retention of health care providers
- To increase representation of under-represented and disadvantaged groups in all health disciplines
- To address healthcare needs of under-served counties and populations
- To enhance the quality of care and improve health outcomes
Jason is thrilled to be attending graduate school starting next month and offer his clients an even higher level of care. He is especially honored by this accolade. Jason and his cohorts will be honored at a banquet ceremony in Denver on October 11.
Please join us in congratulating Jason on his achievement!
