Open Sky is expanding our family services team. Marie Krueger, MA, will be joining the clinical team as a Family Wellness Counselor after more than one and a half years working in the field as a Senior Field Guide.
The family is the centerpiece of the program experience at Open Sky. Our commitment to families is unmatched. Open Sky provides families with a weekly Parent Education & Support Group, a monthly Parent Wellness Weekend, weekly One-on-One Sessions with an Open Sky therapist, and a Family Reunion and Graduation experience. In 2009, Open Sky has conducted over 40 Family Quests, a family-centered field experience customized to meet unique clinical needs for the family while the student is enrolled in the program.
Marie received her MA in Applied Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and then served as Program Director at Byrne Urban Scholars in Denver, Colorado for four years. Marie joined Open Sky in early 2008 because of her interest in learning firsthand about the role of the therapist in wilderness therapy and elected to start by working directly in the field as a guide. In addition to her new role with Open Sky, Marie will also be pursuing additional master's coursework to become a licensed clinical therapist.
As our second Family Wellness Counselor, Marie will assist Norman Elizondo in conducting student graduations and will also lend a hand with the clinical department in running Family Quests, assist during the monthly Parent Wellness Weekends, and will occasionally cover for clinical therapists while on vacation.
Open Sky's holistic wilderness therapy program is the most comprehensive and clinically sophisticated wilderness therapy program in the industry, and the only one that is supported by continuous outcome-based research. Open Sky sets the standard in the industry and employs the widest range of empirically supported interventions for young adults and adolescents in crisis.
