JCAHO-accredited Optimum Performance Institute continues its dynamic tradition of rapidly responding to the individualized needs of young adults by making significant programming changes to its Roanne Program for young adults with Borderline Traits, Borderline Personality Disorder and Co-Occurring Conditions (eating disorders, substance abuse, PTSD, mood disorders, etc.). About a year ago, OPI opened the specialized Roanne Program.

Roanne Program for young adults with disorders of emotion regulation now serves men, as well as women, and 17-year-old young adults.

The Roanne Program also responded positively to requests from parents and participants that services be provided more rapidly and efficiently. They asked that all participants live in apartments in Woodland Hills, CA, close to OPI Staff and other participants, rather than at the previous Roanne location in Malibu, CA.

Now, the Roanne Program is seamlessly integrated into the OPI "village". Its highly experienced clinical staff work in secure environments, drawing upon the plethora of opportunities OPI has cultivated over the years in the Los Angeles area to stimulate growth and development for participants.

The Roanne Program is divided into two phases: an intensive, highly-staffed, 30-day Immersion Phase where participants learn Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Mindfulness techniques while engaging in numerous other activities. This is followed by Mobilization and Integration Phases. Here, participants begin to discover their own passions and interests, continue internalizing DBT and Mindfulness techniques and utilizing the customized services, resources and staff OPI has developed over the past decade.

All Roanne programming remains the same.

In the Immersion Phase, participants:

  • Undergo intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy- an evidence-based therapy developed specifically for disorders of emotional regulation.

  • Focus on development of Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Emotion Regulation.

  • Focus on their co-occurring conditions such as eating disorders, substance abuse, PTSD, etc.

  • Engage in specialized Mindfulness Techniques such as yoga and equine therapy.

  • Begin a relationship with a therapist/case manager who remains with them throughout their stay at Roanne and is the point person for the family.

  • Engage in psychiatric evaluation, medication management, individual skills coaching, expressive art therapy plus "improv," writing and goal workshops and more.

The curriculum continues in each Mobilization Phase, where participants begin to discover a personal life that's worth living. Working with OPI's seasoned Departments of Education, Career Development, Volunteer Services and Extra Curricular Activities, they begin their own path to transformation and independence.

Adjustments have been made allowing program costs to be effectively lowered to accommodate a growing number of requests to provide services for young adults and their families seeking treatment. For more detailed information on our new pricing models, please call 1-888-558-0617.

The Roanne Program is a specialized BPD track within the Optimum Performance Institute.
