Northwest Academy's Brandi Elliott presented before an audience of addiction professionals who had gathered from around the country for a conference in Florida recently.

Elliott spoke in front of a group that included counselors, social workers, therapists, physicians, nurses and interventionists. Her topic was titled "Parents as Partners: Improving Adolescent Residential Treatment through Effective and Increased Parent Participation."

"Partnering with parents may be the single most important indicator of a program's commitment to the quality of care they offer to their clients. It is also essential to a client's success," explained Elliott. In her presentation, she challenged existing paradigms, shared best practices and offered ideas for evaluating outcomes.

The National Conference on Addiction Disorders provides education and resources on the prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery management of addictions. The conference is produced by the publisher of Addiction Professional and Behavioral Healthcare magazines, along with the field's most respected association partners.

Elliott will also present this topic at the upcoming NATSAP Southern Utah Regional Conference held the end of October in Toquerville, Utah.

"Brandi is our Admissions and Marketing Director and is a Certified Parent Coach. We rely on her expertise to help us ensure that we are offering the best services to our families," explained Chief Executive Officer Dr. Adam McLain. "She has been instrumental in helping us put together our parent programming. Our parents engage in family therapy sessions weekly, visit campus every other month, and participate in three parent workshops annually." Dr. McLain is also the Chief Executive Officer for Boulder Creek Academy, a therapeutic boarding school with a state-licensed special education program.

Northwest Academy's focus is on accelerated college-preparatory academics, clinic services and support, substance abuse treatment and character development. An appropriate candidate is an adolescent at-risk of not graduating high school due to mental health, behavioral and/or substance abuse issues. Northwest Academy is licensed by the State of Idaho and accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Commission. Located on a beautiful, plateau in the mountains of northern Idaho, students are accepted for enrollment year-round.

Northwest Academy is a therapeutic boarding school that specializes in working with older adolescents ages 16 to 18 years old.
