Northwest Academy Students Compete in State Golf Tournament

Northwest Academy is represented at the Idaho State Golf Tournament this week. Two students teed off along with fellow members of the Bonners Ferry High School team to take a shot at being recognized as the best team in the State of Idaho. The two 18-year-old Northwest Academy students competed last week in the district golf tournament, placing second and fourth, and solidified their team's place as a competitor in the state finals competition.

"These students have been practicing all season with the local high school team. During the off-season they were working out with our Physical Education Instructor in our new campus fitness center and learning about the physics of a golf swing in their science class," explained Northwest Academy Academic Director Julie Williams, Ph.D., who herself is a golfer.

At Northwest Academy, students are encouraged to identify their passions and collaborate with local resources in order to engage in their avocations. Currently, a number of our students are building an airplane in conjunction with the North Idaho High School Aerospace Program. Another is working a couple of days each week at the local animal shelter and a student recently completed his Certified Nursing Assistant practicum at the local hospital.

Northwest Academy is a therapeutic boarding school specifically designed to meet the unique needs of high school juniors and seniors. Our carefully designed structure and curriculum enables students, at-risk of not graduating high school due to mental health, behavioral or substance abuse issues, to address the roadblocks that are keeping them from successfully transitioning to adulthood.

Northwest Academy students repair their grade point average, rekindle their desire to attend college, apply and are accepted into college, and examine their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and the relationships and patterns between them. Students leave Northwest Academy with a high school diploma in hand and the tools, motivation and confidence needed to lead a successful life. Located on a beautiful, plateau in the mountains of northern Idaho, students are accepted for enrollment year-round.
