Next Step Recovery is a transitional living community for males, 18 and over, who are recovering from drug and alcohol abuse. Founded in 2006, residents may stay at one of two, newly built homes which can accommodate up to 24 residents for 3-12, with a recommendation of at least 6 months to achieve their recovery process. Prospective clients must be clean and sober for at least 30 days prior to admission.
Susan Stader, MS, LPC, LCAS,NCC is the founder and Executive Director of Next Step Recovery, Inc. who specializes in addiction and substance abuse. Susan created Next Step to fill a much needed gap in transitional living in the Asheville area. Toney Gause is a co-founder and a house manager and Liz Read. MS,NCC, maintains Next Step's adventure program.
This structured program helps clients gain life skills and healthy coping mechanisms through several key features of their program which includes addiction recovery support with mandatory group meetings, obtaining a sponsor and attending AA/NA meetings, maintaining a zero tolerance policy with random drug screening and the requirement of residents to work, volunteer or attend school full time. Residents are also responsible for house chores, meal preparations, money management and budgeting and planning and acquiring cooking skills. Supervision is 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
Weekly adventure activities help residents learn healthy alternatives and create peer support. These activities include backpacking, hiking, biking, camping, rafting, fishing and ropes course trainings.
