Phew! We're finally beginning to feel at home after a few tumultuous weeks of packing, moving, unpacking, and settling in.

However, the results have been more than worth it. We have been given the gift of teaching the men, in real time, what it's like to live within a larger community, how to navigate planning and shopping for meals, working together as an apartment to organize and clean, holding each other accountable in their 'own' private community and other particular skills that were overseen in the group home location.

Our young men are rising to the occasion. Daily, we receive positive feedback from them regarding their individual journeys, group decisions and events, or how they have resolved differences within their apartments. We are very proud of how they're handling this new environment and the skills they're learning. We feel confident they will be that much more prepared and mature when it comes time to transition back into the 'real' world. We are blessed with this new opportunity!

Once we have settled down a little more, we hope to have a welcome party, to which you're all invited (perhaps we will need a larger space to accommodate you all)!

Fact VS Fiction:
It's like the old telephone game where rumors grow bigger, crazier and more out control the more it goes on! No matter what you may have heard in recent months about Next Step, here are some things that I know for sure:

First and foremost, we are stable and secure. We have never wavered from our mission to help men in early recovery grow while providing community structure, accountability, and lots of time, love, and attention.

Secondly, we are not above growing pains. Just as in real life, making any transition can be challenging - this is a universal truth. We are not immune. Through challenges come great things, and I'm happy that we are on the threshold of some new and very exciting things!

Last but not least, our sincere thanks, appreciation and love to all our wonderful families, past and present, who have stood by us no matter what. Also to the wonderful treatment programs that know us and continue to partner with us. They have seen first-hand that their clients thrive under our care; in part, because they have set the stage for success. Together, we all are a part of the recovery process and to that end, I have deep faith that our mission is on the right track.

Never underestimate the power of love, hard work and dedication.
