Welcomes Tim Walsh

Many of you in the community know Tim as he has been a leader in treatment in this area for a while. Tim and I have spent a lot of time together over the past year and I have gotten to know him very well. I can say, and I know that you will agree, that we are truly privileged to have him on board.

Tim Walsh is a mental health professional, outdoor educator and recovery expert with over twenty years of experience leading programs for young adults, adolescents and families. Tim has spent decades cultivating his expertise in program development and is a thought leader in adventure-based counseling and recovery. His areas of expertise include youth mentoring, outdoor leadership, prevention and recovery coaching.

Tim has spent the last three years as Co-Founder and Director of Adventure Recovery-an outdoor education and mentoring group. Prior to this, he served five years as Executive Director of Mountainside Treatment Center where he was the founder of the adventure based-counseling program. Tim spent ten years at the Mountain Workshop outdoor leadership school as Program and Staff Development Director. He has also worked as an ongoing consultant and former Youth Director for the New Canaan Congregational Church youth programs since 1998.

Tim develops and facilitates awareness programs for private schools, youth development agencies and national conferences. His unique model of engagement draws young people into a dynamic solutions-based conversation on the topic of mental health and substance abuse awareness. He has presented programs for Yale Divinity School, ADAP of Weston, CT, Recovery 2.0 Conference, High-Five Adventure Symposium, Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, Salisbury School, Hotchkiss School, Wanderlust YogaFestival and high schools and colleges throughout the US. He holds multiple advanced certifications in several disciplines, including whitewater boating, wilderness first response and recovery coaching.

Newport Academy is a series of healing centers for teens and families struggling with trauma and associated mental health issues. With locations in California, Connecticut and New York City, Newport Academy encompasses four state of the art residential treatment programs, two comprehensive outpatient programs, and three nationally recognized therapeutic high schools designed specifically for teens in recovery from mental health issues.
