This presentation is focused on the implications and management of internalized stress related to working in the therapeutic world. The presenters will thoroughly cover the fascinating neurological based science that measures results from therapeutic alliance with clients in various treatment settings. Various scientific studies from the cutting edge stress research Institute of HeartMath demonstrate measurable evidence of working within stressful situations and the accompanying residual affect on our bodies.
The second half of this presentation includes an overview of how we can differentiate between burnout and secondary trauma. Both manifestations have life impacting consequences resulting from ongoing contact with stressful events but manifest with different symptoms. An in depth examination of the various categories of symptoms will be provided including sleep disturbance, invasive thought, flashback experiences, nervous system agitation and much more.
This presentation concludes with a solution-focused orientation on Self Care. This "to do" list of tools to manage ongoing Self care within the field of therapeutic intervention. This list is filled with simple to use techniques that will have direct impact on the life of staff and the clients they serve.
"We look forward to seeing you at the conference in Bend, which is right in our West Coast program's backyard.
