If you haven't heard the story of how New Summit Academy (NSA) started, you are missing out! NSA started out of necessity. Eleven families needed a therapeutic home and a place where their sons could finish high school. Having worked with Andy, James, Mario, Heather, and Cristina, these families asked them to start NSA so that their sons could thrive and finish high school.
The Lager family was the main catalyst for this beginning. Now, years later, NSA is asking you to help the Lager's, specifically Zach, our first NSA student, who has started his own nonprofit organization to help development, sustainable agriculture, and clean water in Mozambique, Africa.
Zach was literally the first student at NSA. His parents supported us, encouraged us, and gave us the start-up funds--enough to put a deposit down on the property we currently lease, get insurance, and buy food for the first month! Zach himself stuck around Costa Rica throughout that month of preparation (yes, we only had a month!) to put his stamp of approval on everything we chose!
He was one of eleven young men that we call the "golden group." They did everything from paint the walls of the buildings to build desks for their bedrooms to actually write most of the Student Handbook that we still use today. They set the tone for what NSA was then, and what it continues to be today--empowerment, nurturing, and classes, service learning, and recreational activities that develop the "whole person."
This amazing family (along with a few others) guided us, advised us, and supported us in doing something we never dreamed of doing--and here we are, 7.5 years later, going strong. We cannot express how much this kind of support and belief in one little project means. For this reason, we are asking you to give your own support and belief in Zach's project. He is an amazing young man, and he will not let you down!
What goes around comes around, and Zach deserves our support! The Local Development Catalyst Network (started & managed by Zach) is in need of funds for several projects:
Tiri Pabodsi Women's Groups - $750 per group per year
Project "We Are the Future" - $25 per sponsored student per year
Community Learning Center - $750 per year
Project H20 - $4000-5000
Operations - $750 per month

Normally, for NSA's anniversary, we have a dinner and a celebratory event to appreciate the years that we have been allowed to help struggling teens. However, this year, seeing what our first graduate was able to do with his life, and more importantly, for the lives of others, we decided to forego any parties and donate our own funds to his project. We are asking you to do the same. It's so rare that a young person dedicates his life to bettering the situation of others, so donate what you can now-$25, $50, $100 or more-whatever you can afford. It is appreciated!
