The New Mexico Ranch School, located on 18,000 acres in the middle of the Gila Wilderness in southwestern New Mexico, is for “at-risk” children ages 10-17, who may be having problems in school, are making bad decisions in their life, or both.

The Ranch School has found that a major source of childhood problems can be traced back to a point where they started having problems in school. “Symptoms include: trouble performing in a classroom, not caring, reduced attention span, and even revolt.” With this in mind, they give their students “workable solutions” by finding the true source of their problems and giving them the tools and skills to solve them. The program is structured for open enrollment, at any time. “When not in class or working with a tutor, the students do ranch projects. Here they learn about exchange and contribution. They soon see the joy in doing a job well. They take pride in demonstrating competence to their peers. Our tight schedule of production, study, and even play, gives the students a predictable stability to their lives. They soon replace old bad habits and routines with new positive ones. Our students develop good control of themselves and their environment without protest of effort. Some fun parts of this step include learning how to handle and ride horses, camping, fishing, snowboarding, and other fun outdoor activities.”

New Mexico Ranch School is licensed to use the study technology and educational philosophy of author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard Applied Scholastics. The school admits students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin and financial assistance is available through student loan companies.
