Kenneth L. Cuave – Psy.D.
New Lifestyles, Inc.

New Lifestyles is a clinically driven transition program for adults aged 18 to 26. It is a residential program that lasts from six months to two years, depending on the pace set by the student. Typical students are of average or higher intellect, suffer from low self-esteem, are socially awkward and shy, lack motivation, have been diagnosed with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, verbal or nonverbal learning disabilities, mild depression or anxiety, and/or may have a history of substance abuse.

In this program there is a great deal of emphasis placed on intensive psychotherapy for the students. They participate in individual therapy two to four times weekly with regular group therapy as well as substance abuse groups, personal growth workshops and activities such as rope courses.

New Lifestyles runs on the theory that intensive structure for adults does not work, but rather, results in dependence and delays in normal development. Based on that theory, they have developed an “intensive structure without walls” program that allows the young adults a chance to achieve their goals and to find their independence within themselves. Also, their “flexibility and adaptability as a program can be extended even more by Alternative Program designs for those students who require an even more unique system of support.”
