Despite the challenges that they might face, MVTC residents understand well the adage "to whom much is given, much is expected," and are encouraged, if not required, during their days at Mountain Valley to give back to those less fortunate than themselves. Many of our graduates remember vividly the emotions they felt when making deliveries to local families in need during our annual firewood drives, or volunteering at Glencliff Nursing Home. Our current residents involved in the two initiatives described below continue the tradition of community service - and we couldn't be more proud of them.
This past weekend a number of our residents traveled to the Plymouth Regional Senior Center to assist with the Holiday Cookie Walk, sponsored by the Plymouth Bridge House Shelter. Participants purchased a holiday box at the door, and then wandered about filling their boxes with scrumptious, locally baked holiday treats, with proceeds going to Bridge House and Veteran's Advocacy Programs.
Prior to Thanksgiving, the MVTC residents participated in a fundraiser at nearby Dartmouth College in support of Selamta Family Project. Selamta Family Project unites orphaned children and marginalized women in Ethiopia to create forever families and bright futures by providing stable homes, excellent education and developmental resources - and MVTC was pleased to be able to be a part of this worthwhile event.
