The students and staff at Mountain Springs Preparatory Academy completed a very successful 2-week trip to Europe this spring. We started off in London for several days, and then visited Oxford, Stratford upon Avon, Stonehenge, and Portsmouth. We traveled by overnight ferry across the English Channel and visited the beaches of Normandy and Mont St. Michel. We then took a train into Paris and spent a couple of days touring the city including the Louvre, the Musee d'Orsay, the Arch de Triomphe, and the Eiffel Tower among other things. From Paris, we caught another train and traveled to Munich, Germany, where we completed our trip. In Munich, we visited Neuschwanstein Castle (the castle that Disney's Cinderella's Castle was patterned after) and spent a sobering morning touring the Dachau Nazi concentration camp.

The trip was a huge success and everyone involved had a great time! The students were able to earn high school credit for their experience and were able to have an unparalleled learning experience - taking in the language, arts, culture, and food of several different countries. All of the students came away with a broadened world-perspective and appreciation for differences. Mountain Springs facilitates an international trip every year in spring for our students. Our next international trip is being planned for March 2010.

In addition, Mountain Springs will be facilitating several treks this summer. These include:

  • 6-day whitewater rafting trip through Desolation Canyon on the Green River coming up in June.

  • A week long Science Trek in July. This is a camping based trip where our Science teacher brings science to life by providing hands-on learning - visiting several significant sites throughout the state.

  • A week-long trip to Yellowstone National Park, Grand Tetons, and Jackson Hole in August.

Please contact Jon Larsen, Head of School, at 435-691-0245 if you have questions about upcoming treks or if you would like more information about Mountain Springs
