Mount Pleasant Academy is proud to have hosted their first-ever Vision Quest event last month on the campus of the treatment center's beautiful horse ranch, surrounded by rolling pastures and rocky mountain peaks. A full program of experiential workshops and clinical presentations was rounded out by adventure based activities, dutch oven peach cobbler, a 5-star dinner, as well as sweat lodge and spiritual circle opportunities.

Experiential Workshops
Equine Therapy is a crucial component of therapeutic programming at Mount Pleasant. Students gain valuable insights regarding themselves and their behavior through relationship-building with a horse. Vision Quest attendees were treated to an equine experience that focused on the relational energy exchange that takes place between human and horse (led by Experiential Director Shawn Ashworth).

The low ropes course , designed and constructed by Mount Pleasant's program director (Matt Kiefer), also provides students with the opportunity for personal change and growth. Through the use of cooperative tasks and metaphor, participants at Vision Quest were able to explore communication, relationships, and group dynamics.

Clinical Presentations
David Thompson LMFT, ASAT (Clinical Director at Mount Pleasant) and Stan Sullivan, LCSW, CSAT both gave presentations geared specifically to those mental health professionals who work with adolescents suffering from sexual addictions. Mr. Thompson's presentation centered on daily recovery and practice technique while Mr. Sullivan focused on the theoretical construct of the authentic self.

Three-Hour Master Class
Closing out the event was Dr. Stefanie Carnes, president of the International Institute for Trauma & Addiction Professionals. Dr. Carnes is a nationally acclaimed speaker and authority on addiction treatment. In addition to her work with couples and families facing sexual addiction, she has authored several books, including Mending a Shattered Heart: A Guide for Partners of Sex Addicts. Vision Quest attendees benefited greatly from her informative and engaging presentation.
