Montcalm School Closes

We want to make sure that everyone with an interest in Montcalm Therapeutic Boarding School is aware of our recent announcement that the school will soon close.

Starr Commonwealth made the decision to close Montcalm after a long period of low and unsustainable student populations. Therefore, we are no longer accepting referrals.

We plan to close the school at the end of the current semester on January 22nd 2015, or when all of our students have found a suitable alternative school.

After 14 years of therapeutic success and hundreds of young people graduating from Montcalm, the decision to close the school has not been easy, and comes after a significant effort to make it financially stable.

As we close this program, our staff will make every effort to ensure that each and every student experiences as smooth a transition as possible. We are committed to ensuring our students have a great experience until they find another high quality program.

As part of that commitment, our staff will be paying close attention to the emotional well-being of our students, recognizing that each individual will deal with this type of change in their own personal way.

It has been a privilege to serve so many children and families at Montcalm, and we hope your experience with the school has been of a high quality.

We apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment this closure may cause for your clients. For families who currently have their child at Montcalm, we are providing as much information as possible to help them work through this change.

Montcalm School is a private, therapeutic boarding school located in Albion, Mich., and a program of Starr Commonwealth. Our proven, strength-based treatment model focuses on each student's strong points and abilities while helping youth academically, behaviorally and socially. Montcalm offers a traditional therapeutic program for boys and girls, ages 12-18, Outside In, a program for boys and girls, ages 12-18, with autism spectrum disorders, and Structured Transitional Living, a life skills program for boys, ages 17-21.
