The Monarch Center is offering three separate leadership expeditions this summer for teens between the ages of 12-18. All trips will be 13 night-14 day, work/study projects, that prove to be challenging, fun and productive.
Trip 1: Hopi/Navajo Indian Reservations
June 8-21, 2009
Focus:
- Learning leadership, communication and relationship skills as part of a group of youth working together.
- Rebuilding a centuries old rock house for a local Hopi Family
- Learning about the role of community in cultures that have survived for thousands of years
- Learning the ancient wisdoms and customs of the Hopi Elders
- Visiting Walpi, one of the oldest continuously inhabited villages in the United States
- Rebuilding a barnhouse for a local Navajo family
- Participate and learn the Navajo culture including learning how to weave a Navajo rug, cook frybread and work on a sheep and horse ranch
- Backpack in Monument Valley
Cost is $150.00 per day, per student.
Transportation from Georgetown, CO and all meals and lodging are included.

Trip 2: Pine Ridge Indian Reservation
July 6-19, 2009
Focus:
- Participate in a community service project to benefit the local people
- Learning about the role of community in cultures that have survived for thousands of years
- Participating in an authentic sweat lodge ceremony with members of the Lakota Sioux Nation
- Learning the ancient wisdoms and customs of the Lakota Sioux Nation Elders
- Meeting with a Lakota medicine man
Cost is $150.00 per day, per student
Transportation from Georgetown, CO and all meals and lodging are included.
